Borodin Polovtsian Dances

Here – with apologies for sound and video quality – is a recording of The Huddersfield Singers performing Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances at the Song and Dance Summer concert, 5th July 1997. John S. Bailey is the accompanist; the choir is conducted by Philip Honnor.

Audio

Here are a couple of audio clips of The Huddersfield Singers performing Victoria’s Tenebræ Responsories at the Easter 1998 concert. Both clips were taken from a recording of the same concert (now available on CD). Note that both of these samples have been reduced in quality in order to minimize their file size and downloading time. The CD (see the Recordings page for details) is produced to commercial standards.

Also available is an extract from the Easter 2007 concert, which was a combined performance involving The Huddersfield Singers and the Reigate Grammar School Parents’ and Friends’ Music Society. The extract is of the very start of the concert: the opening Kyrie eleison from Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle.

In 1931, Gustav Holst wrote his Wassail Song for the Huddersfield Glee and Madrigal Society and dedicated it to the choir. Despite performing the piece frequently over the years, the choir had never made a recording of it until, in 2019, long-serving member Pam Sykes visited the Holst Birthplace Museum and made arrangements for a recording to be created for their use. The appropriately rustic-sounding result is presented here!

Finally, here is a copy of the choir’s contribution to the Manchester Royal Exchange Theatre’s 2007 production of The Tempest: Arun Ghosh’s Juno and Ceres. For more information about this recording, see the dedicated The Tempest page.
